This is something new for Brighton U3a, A chance for total beginners to learn and experienced players to find others to play against.

Mah-jongg is an ancient Chinese game that resembles Rummy in some ways but is far more interesting and varied. The game is played with a set of 144 tiles (sets will be provided) and is very tactile, making it pleasurable to play on yet another level.

I have been playing Mah-jongg for over 60 years. Although not a great player, I have won several competitions in the past and I will be teaching beginners, slowly, patiently, and carefully, from scratch. We will be covering the games' rituals used during play, how to play, understanding the tiles and basic strategy to win.

This game has many facets that change as every game proceeds and is a joy to play, but its big plus for people of our age is that it keeps your mind working better than anything else I've found, so join us and give it a try
